Title: Hey GPS people, I need you!
Post by: math2k on April 20, 2007, 10:03:18 pm
Hi folks!

I'm currently developing the distance calculation feature using GPS for the Ohmygolf software.

I'm looking for a few people with a GPS enabled device (internal or bluetooth) who could spend some of their free time to try the beta version and give me some feedback.

If you're interested, leave a comment in this post and I'll contact you :)

Thanks!

Update: Since GPS developement needs a lot more work before being usable, no more testers are required, thanks!

Well the golf season is coming to northern Sweden and my golfbag is out of the closet. Count me in if you want some comments and suggestions on the software.  I work as a IT eduction consultant so I should know a little bit about interface. I also have some experience of your software I am responsible for Umea golf slopes.

Hey Math2k,

Any eta on the next beta?

I'm considering a GolfBuddy, but don't really wanna shell out money for it, if you're still planning on including it in OMG.

Hi Nick,

To be honest I haven't touch the source code for 4 months .. I have been pretty busy these days.

I don't think I will be able to produce anything usable for a while. Playing with a serial device is a lot more difficult than expected.

So unless I get some help, don't expect anything before next season.

Sorry to leave like this .. :(

Hmm...thanks for the reply, Math2k.

It's been a long while since I've played with code. Mebbe I'll start reading up on it and see what I see ;-)

hey math2k,

if you'd like, you could make the project available to interested developers on SourceForge.net.  i have a bit of skill with C# and .NET and definitely would like to enhance the app as it is right now.

Hi all,

No developements have been made in the last few months :(

I don't have any time to dedicate to the software anymore ..

mxk1235, going opensource is something that crossed my mind, I will think about it in the next few days.

I'll keep you updated.

I don't think the current app will be released to the opensource world.

What I could do is opening the website to allow other apps to submit scorecards and get the course list, so anyone could write an app on any device.

A suggestion: currently there are other project that aim the GPS issue and are freeware, it's http://www.freecaddie.com . It works like a charm!.
Why don't try to contact these people and join efforts: maybe you don'd want or need to unificate your applicatiosn in only one, but maybe you can find the way that both apps can "talk" between them and in this way you'll get the best software at the least effort!.
Hope that helps.
